Nujiang valley: Good destination for sightseeing

Updated:2022-03-04 17:50:54

The Nujiang Grand Canyon is a geographical wonder in the northwest of Yunnan’s Nujiang Lisu autonomous prefecture.

Originating at the southern foot of Mt. Tanggula on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, the north-south Nujiang river runs between the mountains of Biluo and Gaoligong with an elevation of more than 3,000 meters on both sides.

A natural canyon is formed as deep as 2,000 to 3,000 meters in west Yunnan province, with a length of 310 kilometers. And then the river flows into Myanmar in the name of Salween.

Grand Canyon of Nujiang, Colorado in the US and Yarlung Zangbo in China’s Xizang autonomous region are entitled as the world's top three Grand Canyons.

In the valley live the Lisu, Nu, Dulong, Tibetan, Pumi and other ethnic groups who created unique lifestyles and culture.

Influenced by the southwest monsoon from the Indian Ocean, the Nujiang canyon is a habitat for various plants and animals.
