Black-headed gulls arrive in Kunming for winter
Updated:2021-10-26 18:25:20
More than 2,000 black-headed gulls have lived in the Dianchi Lake since October 13. The gulls have been migrating to Kunming, Yunnan province for wintering for 37 years since they first arrived in 1985.
This year, November is expected to be the best time of gull watching. Local forest and grassland authorities purchased 33.5 tons of gull food this year and asked nearly 60 conservationists to feed them at 62 spots.
From October to April, feeding will be organized twice a day. Leg bands will be attached to 200 black-headed gulls, with samples of their serum, throat swabs and feces collected for tests and examinations.
