3rd YICMG held in Laos, focusing on tourism and eco-conservation
The third Youth Innovation Competition on Lancang-Mekong Region’s Governance and Development (YICMG) was held at Vientiane, Laos from January 27-30, drawing in 69 youthful contestants from nine universities in the six Lancang-Mekong countries.
With the theme of “Soltion to green industry and tourism”, this year’s YICMG gathered university students in the sub-region for an inter-cultural youth innovation and entrepreneurship competition. The participants are tasked to tackle governance and development problems in their home countries, do research and come up with innovative plans and solutions.
Students from Guangxi University of Finance and Economics and National University of Laos were granted the awards for best group creativity. Youths from Cambodia, Thailand and other Mekong countries also won prizes.
The YICMG competition was jointly launched in 2016 by Fudan University, Shanghai International Culture Association, Guangxi International Culture Exchange Centre and Guangxi University of Finance and Economics.
Now the YICMG is considered one of the most significant events in the sub-region as it gives students the chance to create feasible and creative solutions to continuously safeguard the world’s twelfth longest river.
The fourth YICMG is expected to be held in Cambodiain in January 2019.
