CRM wins the bid to supply rails to China-Laos line

China Railway Materials Company Limited (CRM) was recently recognized as the steel-rail supplier to the China-Laos Railway, including the 508-km Chinese section (from Yuxi to Mohan in Yunnan) and the 418-km Lao section (from Boten to Vientiane).

To be a good steel-rail supplier to the China-Laos line, the CRM company took the Lao conditions into consideration and studied the rail supplying, welding and laying in the country. Based on its experiences in Kenya, Argentina, Pakistan and Vietnam, the company selected a supplying proposal of easier access and lower cost among three options. The selected proposal was accepted and recognized by experts from both countries.

The China-Laos Railway is a landmark project for the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as a showcase of China railways’ efforts in going global. The railway is the first overseas route connecting with the railway system in China, using Chinese technology, equipment and investment.

Ground-breaking of the railway project was held in December 2015 and construction of the whole route was commenced in December 2016.
