Recently, thirteen Thai middle-school students performed Bawangbian, a traditional musical instrument of Bai ethnic group and showed their fruitful learning outcomes of Chinese culture in Xishan Experimental Middle School, southwest China’s Yunnan Province.

The students are from a middle school in Chiang Rai, Thailand and they took part in a student exchange program jointly implemented by their school and the Xishan Experimental Middle School of Kunming, capital city of Yunnan.

During the two-week stay in Yunnan, the Thai students experienced Chinese culture through learning Chinese calligraphy, folk music and dance. They said the courses in Xishan Experimental Middle School were fascinating and they had learned what they couldn’t in Thailand.

Besides learning in the classrooms, they also learned how to play local folk musical instrument including Bai people’s Bawangbian, and performed Chinese songs and dances with Chinese students.

The two schools signed a student exchange agreement and became sister schools in 2014. Since then, they have implemented many exchange programs, forming a cross-border bridge of friendship.
