Unique Dongba wedding ceremony of Naxi people

Naxi people, who believe in Dongba religion, mainly live in the northwest part of Yunnan province. They have their unique wedding ceremony.

Among all the wedding customs such as making wine, pancakes, new quilt and wedding dress, the Suzhu Rite is the most special. On the rite, a Dongba master will tie the fingers of the couple together, meaning that the souls of the lovers are firmly connected. After the ceremony, they will get a marriage certificate written in Dongba language. They’ll also release captive animals into the wild and pray for a happy life.
