Xu visualized this popular fable among Chinese households to pay tribute to those who contributed – and many who lost their lives – to the construction of Myanmar Road, an important thoroughfare linking Myanmar and China's Yunnan province for transporting supplies to China during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).
