Located near the banks of the Lancang River, Jinghong City, meaning "city of dawn" in the Dai ethnic language, serves as the capital of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture in South Yunnan. 

In the past decades, the beautiful city has seen fast growth in tourism. The number of annual visitors has increased from one million in 1992 to more than 18 million in 2017, with the total tourism revenue reaching 35.323 billion yuan last year.
