Peacocks escape from zoo, wander at Yunnan University
Two peacocks that escaped from the Kunming Zoo were spotted wandering at the Donglu campus of Yunnan University on March 20, reports say.
The large, brilliantly-coloured birds remained on the loose at the beautiful campus for some time, before they were lured and captured intact by the zoo workers in the afternoon.
Either strolling on the verdant lawn, perching in the trees or flying near the buildings, the birds excited the university students and teachers, as well as some pedestrians, a lot.
Some onlookers watched the birds and instantly posted the birds’ pictures onto their weibo, a twitter-like social media popular in China.
“Well, what can i do? I just dote on the birds,” said a weibo blogger. The university weibo also posted some words in a joking way: “It seems that the birds also enjoy the academic air here~”
Peacocks are said to tend to escape from the zoo in spring either because the female ones in the mating period want to find a nestling spot beyond the zoo, or because the newly grown-ups are eager to explore new flying zones.
