Under the jurisdiction of northwest Yunnan’s Diqin Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Shangri-La City boasts unique natural environmental resources in the development of bird-watching ecotourism.

More than 300 bird species in Shangri-La have been registered by China Birds Report.

In 2016, according to observational statistics, more than 20,000 migratory birds from 50 to 60 different species wintered in the Napa Lake wetlands in the city, including 316 black-necked cranes, a national key protected species in China.
