“Festival of Australia”, a cultural promotion activity kicks off on May 25 and will last to 31 in Kunming, capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, in the hope of deepening Yunnan people’s understanding of Australia.

The promotion is held in the downtown area of Kunming. A number of famed Australian brands display their featured products, including dairy products, beverages and wine. Australian art troupe Yidaki Vibes stages music and dance performances for Kunming citizens. And a photograph exhibition and a road show also highlighted the activity.

“Sponsored by Australian government, it aims at promoting delicacies, wine, art, service industry, physical education and aboriginal culture of our country,” said Christopher Lim, Australian Consul-General in Chengdu, adding that “Festival of Australia” will visit 10 Chinese cities in two weeks.

Yunnan is expanding opening-up in all aspects in recent years. Currently, 15 Yunnan enterprises have set up branches in Australia and 88 Australian firms have started businesses in the province. The total trade volume between Yunnan and Australia reached 172 million US dollars in Q1, up 35.5% year on year.
