Yunnan flowers reach Thai market within 40 hours
ASEAN is the traditional market for Yunnan flowers.
Thanks to the Kunming-Bangkok highway, the cold-chain land transport allows flowers in Yunnan fields to reach the flower market in Thailand within 40 hours, including the time for picking, grading, pruning, packaging and auction.
At present, 40 plus flower categories and over 500 varieties are traded at the Dounan flower market in Kunming, Yunnan Province.
During the peak seasons, around 10 million Yunnan flowers are sold to more than 50 countries and regions daily, 20%-30% of which are exported to the south and southeast Asian countries.
For its favorable climate, Yunnan has been China’s major flower producer. Flowers like carnations and roses, which are not easy to grow in tropical areas, have gained popularity in the Thai market.
Yunnan flowers are now a signature of the province’s openness and the cooperation between China and its neighboring countries.
In recent years, Yunnan has actively served the Belt and Road Initiative, improving connectivity with neighboring countries and increasing win-win cooperation in economy, trade, culture and tourism.
