Southwest China's Yunnan Province will invest 50 billion yuan (around 7.15 billion U.S. dollars) to build 200,000 5G base stations to fully cover the cities, prefectures, counties and districts in the province with the 5G network, the provincial development and reform commission said Saturday.
The province will invest a total of 2 trillion yuan in the following five years or so to start the construction of 10 new major infrastructure projects, including the 5G base station project, and accelerate the construction of a modern infrastructure network.
The 5G network is an important foundation for the development of the "digital economy," said Zhou Minxin, deputy director of the commission.
