A group of some 20 wild Asian elephants recently appeared in a nature reserve in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

On Friday, staff members observed a wild elephant family entering the Wild Elephant Valley scenic spot with several baby elephants. The giant animals played in a pond and fed themselves with shrubs nearby.

According to the staff, Asian elephant, the largest mammal on land in Asia, is a first-class protected wild animal in China. They can grow up to two to four meters high and weigh 3,000 to 5,000 kilograms.

Local authorities have deployed more staff members to the Wild Elephant Valley to ensure both the wild elephants' and visitors' safety.
