How do black soldier flies help human beings?
Have you ever seen black soldier flies? Do you know in what ways they can help human beings?
In the afternoon of September 23, Jerry went to the Mountain Futures of Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in southern Yunnan’s Honghe Hani and Yi autonomous prefecture, where he saw these tiny black worms for the first time.
Zhang Haiya, the director assistant of the Mountain Futures, explained to Jerry how black soldier flies can break down and digest kitchen waste as well as being an ideal type of protein for chickens and fish to consume.
Jerry couldn’t be more impressed by what he saw and heard.
At present, landfill is the most common form of waste disposal. This, however, would inevitably lead to land and water pollutions.
With black soldier flies’ powerful decomposing ability, reducing food waste ecologically will no longer be a dream.
