Mengkang port upgraded to boost China-Laos trade
The Mengkang land port in south Yunnan’s Jiangcheng Hani and Yi autonomous county was recently accepted by Chinese national authorities as a major border gate for people and goods to cross all year around, in a bid to boost bilateral trade.
“Connected to the Lao border check point of Lanetoui, the Mengkang port sits near the Phongsaly province of north Laos, and it will be another Chinese gateway to southeast Asia” said Qiu Ming, Party chief of Jiangcheng county.
The Mengkang port is now equipped with sound facilities for joint checkups, cold-chain logistics and cross-border trade. In 2020, the border gate saw 157,500 tons goods flowing between China and Laos, an increase of 24.8% year on year.
