New tunnel on China-Laos Railway completed

A tunnel named Mengsong 2 on the China-Laos Railway (China section) was completed yesterday on January 5.

So far, 88 out 93 tunnels designed to be built on this railroad in total have been completed.

The China-Laos Railway is a key infrastructure project of China which aims at strengthening the ties between China and its Southeast Asian neighbors, particularly Laos. It also plays a pivotal role in China’s Road and Belt Initiative.

After the entire project is completed, the travel time between Kunming—a major economic and cultural hub of southwest China —and Vientiane —the capital city of Laos —will be reduced to less than 12 hours.

 It is believed that this railway will be a brand new propeller to promote the economic growth of both China and Southeast Asian countries.
