Cute, black-headed birds spotted in Dehong

Local photographers have recently spotted a pair of long-tailed broadbills in the woods in west Yunnan’s Dehong prefecture. The black and yellow feathers on their heads look like a helmet, so they are nicknamed as “traffic rule-abiders” in the wilderness.

A bird species under the 2nd-class state protection in China, the long-tailed broadbill is about 25 cm in length and weighs between 47 and 80 grams. It is also found in the Himalayas, extending east through Northeastern India to Southeast Asia.
