Green book on Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys published
The green book on Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys protection was officially published in Kunming on April 28.
The Yunnan snub-nosed monkey is categorized as the rare and endangered wildlife endemic to China. The monkeys inhabit in the northwestern Yunnan’s three parallel rivers, a region listed as a world natural heritage site. In 1983, the first Yunnan snub-nosed monkey reserve was built to protect the rare species.
The book publicized the result of the synchronous dynamic monitoring on the monkey population throughout the habitats for the first time in China. Its release filled up the gap of scientific basic materials and recorded the whole process of systematic monitoring and assessment on the snub-nosed monkeys.
According to the monitoring results in the green book, the population of snub-nosed monkeys increased from over 1,000 in 13 groups in 1996 to over 3,300 in 23 groups now.
The book also reviews the hardship and achievements of protecting the monkeys during 40 years and shows the Yunnan biodiversity to the globe.
