Hybrid rice in south Yunnan expected to break world record
2,000 trays of super hybrid-rice seedlings were recently transplanted in the Qianjin village, south Yunnan’s Mengzi city, and the rice is expected to achieve a world-record breaking output of 1,200 kilograms per mu, or Chinese acre.
The Qianjin hybrid rice pilot field lies in a favorable even area of Caoba Town, Mengzi City, making it easy to be irrigated. With an annual temperature of 18.8℃, the area is the right place for rice planting. The researchers have formulated a best technical scheme to manage the rice growing process with quantitative indicators.
Mengzi has cooperated technically with the China National Hybrid Rice R&D Center since 2017, and guided by professor Yuan Longping and other agronomists, the experimental rice field has achieved an output of 1,100 kilograms per Chinese acre.
