30 injured at epicenter of Yunnan quakes stable

Thirty people in Yangbi county, southwest China's Yunnan Province, who were injured after strong earthquakes hit the county, are in stable condition, local authorities said Sunday.

Four earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 5.0 struck Yangbi from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Beijing Time Friday. By 3 p.m. Saturday, three people were killed and 32 others injured.

By 11 a.m. Saturday, a total of 232 houses in Yangbi had collapsed and 14,122 damaged by the quakes, said Yang Xiaopeng, deputy head of Yangbi, at a press conference on Sunday evening.

More than 50,000 people in the quake-affected areas have been evacuated. Local authorities have provided shelters for nearly 27,000 people.
