The southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan has made itself visible in New York city on July 1, the centenary of the Communist Party of China.

By showcasing promotional videos of its cities and prefectures on Times Square, the province drew attention from quite a few American media outlets, such as US News, USCNTV, and the Los Angeles Herald.

The herd of 15 wandering wild Asian elephants from southern Yunnan's Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture has recently been in the global spotlight. Local government and people made joint efforts to protect the giant animals, which has been praised worldwide.

8 video clips presented Americans the province's unique landscapes and folk customs, especially those in the 8 popular Yunnan destinations: Yuxi, Nujiang, Dali, Wenshan, Qujing, Baoshan, Lincang and Diqing.

The videos also showed the province's biodiversity and efforts in eco-conservation, which will be highlighted at the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15). The meeting will take place in Kunming, the provincial capital, in the coming October.
