COP15: Silver pheasants spotted in Pu’er

Infrared cameras recently captured the silver pheasants foraging in the Taiyanghe nature reserve in Simao district, southwest Yunnan’s Pu’er city. In the videos, one kind is white and the other is brown.

Xu Chonghua, chief of publicity department in the reserve, said both kinds of birds belonged to the silver pheasant. The male is black and white, while the female is mainly brown. Both sexes have a red face and red legs.

The silver pheasant is a species of pheasant found in mountains of Southeast Asia and China. A national II-level protected animal in China, it was included in the IUCN red List of Threatened Species in 2016.

The Taiyanghe reserve is located in the transitional area from tropical to southern subtropical, which is very suitable for the growth of silver pheasants, muntjacs and other animals. The forest coverage has reached 97.45%.
