Hi, Kunming: Thai food in the street of Kunming
What kind of food reminds you of Thailand most: Pad Thai, Tom Yum Goongm, or Mango Sticky rice?
Thai cuisine is unique and unlike any other in the world, the dishes often have a perfect mix of sour, sweet, and spicy. If you miss homemade Thai food, Kunming has a Thai restaurant at the Jinbi market on Nanqiang Street.
JANJIRA, a woman from Thailand, opened the restaurant called “Street Food” in May this year. The canteen features authentic Thai decorations.
In early 2020, the outbreak of COVID-19 made it hard to have long-distance tours. Having worked in Kunming canteens for 16 years, JANJIRA came up with an idea to run a restaurant on her own.
“Although Thai restaurants are quite visible in Kunming, few of them offered diners authentic Thai dishes,” said JANJIRA.
The restaurant is not very big. However, it has a variety of dishes. Diners can order Thai soups, appetizers, the main course and a dessert. Whatever mood you're in, you can find the right dish here.
“The restaurant made me feel like at home,” said Ms. Chen, one of the regular customers who has worked in Kunming for 10 years.
