Jingdong hand-pounding beef jerky

When you travel in Jingfu Town, Jingdong County, southwest Yunnan’s Pu’er city, a local snack you must taste is the hand-pounding beef jerky.

Located in the Wuliang mountains and the Lancang river basin, the town has well-developed livestock industry. That’s why the beef is better than its peers in other places.


In making the jerky, local first choose the lean beef from the thigh part, cut it into strips and sprinkle some salt. Then, grill the beef until it is hard outside and soft inside.

When the meat is dry, keep pounding the jerky with a hammer so that the spices will blend in. Finally, tear the jerky into pieces.
