COP15: Yilong lake: Paradise for wild birds in south Yunnan

With its surrounding water bodies restored in recent years, the Yilong lake in south Yunnan’s Shiping county has been turned into a paradise for wild birds, such as cormorants, ruddy shelducks, glossy ibises and more.

Before the lakeside eco-restoration, cormorants and ruddy shelducks were said to have been absent from the lake area for almost 60 years. Now the protected birds of sanderlings, painted snipes and shovellers are also seen in the area.
