LMC sepaktakraw open kicks off in Kunming
The 2021 Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) China Sepaktakraw Open kicked off in Xishan District, central Yunnan’s Kunming city on December 23. Around 60 athletes from the six LMC countries of China, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam participated in this event.
Sepaktakraw, a popular sports in the Mekong basin, forms a good medium to enhance cultural exchanges among the LMC countries. This event upholds the LMC spirit of growth, efficiency, consultations, openness and inclusiveness.
Originated in Malaysia around 500 years ago, sepaktakraw is a game where players can touch as well as handle the ball using only their foot, knee, chest or head. The rules of the game are very much similar to that of volleyball.
