Livestock herds seen on traditional passenger train
When Mr. Wang, a GuiZhou native, took the 5633/5634 train in Yunnan’s neighboring Sichuan province on April 16, he was quite amazed by a scene of livestock herds occupying a compartment of the traditional passenger train.
The herds included 42 sheep, over 20 hogs and 5 cows. “A special compartment for carrying livestock has been designated to meet the needs of local Yi ethnic folks,” said Liu Wei, the conductor, adding his train passes through 27 stations on a mileage of 376 kilometers.
Since the inception of the bullet trains across China, an increasing number of travelers would take the high-speed trains, but the traditional passenger trains are still popular among villagers and their children. They use the train to travel between their homes and rural markets or schools, selling the produces for daily necessities and leaning from the teachers.
