COP15: 56 species of endemic fish found in Nujiang River
Schizothorax paoshanensis
Starting in 2019, Chinese conservationists have found 56 species of endemic fish in middle and lower reaches of the Nujiang River, including the percocypris retrodorslis, the gagata dolichnema and others.
The Nujiang River (also called the Salween outside China) is an important international river that rushes north-south in west Yunnan province, and 18 of found fish species inhabit exclusively in the Nujiang river basin.
Schistura longa
Originating from the south of Mt. Tanggula, the river flowing to the south through the Tibet Autonomous Region before entering Yunnan, and it leaves China from Dehong Prefecture. The Nujiang is rich in water resources and rare species, presenting a high degree of biodiversity.
In October this year, the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) will take place in Kunming, Yunnan province, where the participating nations are expected to address challenges in biodiversity protection.
