Blue-tailed bee-eaters spotted in Shidian county
These days, the blue-tailed bee-eaters (Merops philippinus), hailed as a most beautiful bird, are frequently seen in the mountains on the east bank of Nujiang River in Shidian County, west Yunnan’s Baoshan City.
They flock together and inhabit on twigs or electric wires, foraging for insects as food. They usually build nests in the cliffs together in large groups.
In the sunshine, the feather of blue-tailed bee-eaters looks as bright as gold. That’s why people called them one of the most beautiful birds in China.
The bird was listed on the 2013 Red List of Endangered Species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and it is also under state protection in China.
