Tiger-leaping gorge reopens to public
As one of the most world-famous tourist sites in Shangri-la, Yunnan Province, the tiger-leaping gorge reopened to the public recently, welcoming visitors from around the world.
Local management decided to renovate the highway from the gorge to Junmachang in October 2020, imposing a 6-month closure on the scenic area.
The gorge, one of the deepest in China, lies on the Jinsha River, a primary tributary of upper Yangtze River. The canyon is divided into upper, middle and lower parts. The hiking path (the high road) is well-maintained and marked, frequented by groups of internaitonal visitors.
The 15km gorge is located where the river passes between the 5,596m Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and the 5,396m Haba Snow Mountain, creating in a series of rapids at the foot of the steep cliffs.
