Parrots and Bulang people live in harmony in Mangba

Updated:2021-11-12 16:59:04

Mangba is a Bulang village under the jurisdiction of Simao District, southwest Yunnan’s Puer City. The village is famous for bird-watching because about 400 rare parrots called Derbyan Parakeet inhabit here.

These parrots mainly distribute in southwestern Yunnan and the Lancang River (upper reach of Mekong River) basin. Dubbed as the largest parrot in China, Derbyan Parakeet is listed in the national second-level protected animal.

These birds will fly into a big banyan tree screaming loudly at four or five o'clock in the afternoon. The sound is so loud and clear that the entire village can hear them.

Besides parrots, other rare animals can also be seen in Mangba like silver pheasants and more, showing a high level of biodivrsity.

With the effective environmental protection by locals, the birds have been living in harmony with the people in the village for many years.
