Pingbian, southernmost “spring city” in China
Located in the south Yunnan’s Honghe Hani and Yi Prefecture, the terrains of Pingbian Miao autonomous county are high in the north and low in the south, with its elevation varying 154-2,590 meters.
Crossed by the Tropic of Cancer (23°N latitude), it has three-dimensional climate. Known as "China's southernmost spring city", it is neither too cold in winter and nor hot in summer.
Pingbian is also a place where many ethnic groups live in harmony as a family: Miao, Yao, Zhuang and more. Various folk cultures meet here and complement each other.
Ethic festivals of Huashan, Panwang and Rainbow Rice are fascinating. Local heritages of batik, embroidery, music and more are passed down for generations.
Rainbow rice of the Zhuang ethic group is a special dish shouldn’t miss. Besides, the Miao dishes and Yi meat soup are favored by foodies.
The Wujiazhai bridge witnesses a century of history. Constructed in 1907, the herringbone bridge over River Sicha is one of the landmark projects of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway.
