Bird lovers caught sight of 51 plus black-winged stilts flying to and fro at the Qinghuahai lake in southwest Yunnan’s Baoshan city on April 8, the largest bird flock ever observed in the area over the years.
With slim legs and the body length of 37 centimeters, the elegant bird was listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as an endangered species in 2013. The waders enjoyed living in the shallow lake areas.
Recent years saw local measures to restore the eco-system in the Qinghuahai lake area, which has now become home to 290 bird species: 8 under first-class state protection and 41 under second-class protection.
