Veterinarians do infusion for rescued whale in Taizhou
In view of the physical conditions, veterinarians in Taizhou, east China’s Zhejiang province, delivered an infusion therapy for a rescued whale at the Hongye fish farm on July 7.
“Having been stranded long, the weak whale needs to be replenished with some nutritional liquid,” said a diver suenamed Li, who was aiding the vets in conducting the infusion.
Nine melon-headed whales were rescued on Tuesday afternoon after becoming stranded in the shallow water of a shoal in Linhai city in Taizhou on Tuesday morning.
Three other such whales, a State Level II protected species, died before they could be rescued.
Among the nine that survived, two were transported to Baishawan Park in Linhai, two are being kept temporarily at Taizhou Ocean World, and five were transported to the Hongye fish farm in Taizhou.
Except the weak one, the other four whales at the fish farm are said to be able to swim properly now. “The rescued whales will be released back to the ocean when they are well enough,” added the vets.
