Railway to link up Thailand, China and Laos

Updated:2021-12-07 16:48:39

“The China-Laos railway is not only an important international transport line, but also a link for the friendship between Thailand, China and Laos,” said Jaruwan Udomsab, a Thai native working in Kunming, Yunnan province.

Jaruwan recently had fun riding a Fuxing EMU train on the newly built China-Laos Railway, which is expected to link up Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore in the long run.

Thanks to geographical proximity and culture similarity, Jaruwan was able to communicate with passengers from Laos and south Yunnan’s Xishuangbanna without much linguistic barriers.

“The ride is full of fun, and I see the great Chinese train technology,” said a Laotian passenger nicknamed Ai, while a Xishuangbanna lady told Jaruwan that she likes the Thai customs a lot, hoping to take a train to Thailand soon.

The international passengers were on a trial ride that day. Departing from Kunming Railway Station, they traveled southward all the way to Yuxi city, Pu'er city and Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture.
