Birth-givers cared in Dongchuan despite heavy snow
The fire station received two emergency calls from two pregnant women who were about to give birth on Feb 22 at a health center in Dongchuan district, central Yunnan’s Kunming.
On receiving the calls, the Dongchuan rescue brigade dispatched 3 fire fighters and 2 medical workers to the Hongtudi town 70 km away. However, the roads in the mountains were frozen due to a heavy snow as deep as 1 meter.
Jammed all the way, the doctors kept in touch with the patients, giving timely guidance to the health center. At some point, the vehicle couldn’t drive through, and the rescuers got off the ambulance to clean up the snow.
The rescue team arrived at the town after nearly 5 hours at 21:50. The medical staff immediately conducted examination for the two would-be mothers.
The women gave birth to babies, a boy and a girl, safe and sound at 2:30 and 4:40 next morning.
