Pu'er skier to compete in Winter Paralympics
Yan Gong, a disabled skier from southwest Yunnan’s Pu'er city, has been selected into the alpine skiing team for the 2022 Beijing Paralympic Winter Games.
China will send 96 athletes to the coming 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympics, seven of whom come from Yunnan province, said an announcement on Feb 21.
"I’m lucky to be one of the seven Yunnan athletes to compete in the Winter Paralympic Games,” said Yan Gong. “I skied in several countries and hope to make a breakthrough this year."
Born in a village of Ximeng Wa autonomous county, Yan lost his right leg in a car accident. In 2016, Yan picked up winter sports, starting a new life of skiing in Harbin.
With the paralympics around the corner, Yan added he’s especially grateful to the family, coaches and teachers, who encouraged him to move forward.
Yan and other six Yunnan athletes will also compete in snowboard, cross-country skiing and biathlon.
