Go deep in Lijiang: Paraglider flies over Jade Dragon
Hong Yang, a professional paraglider, has flown over the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain at an altitude of 5,786 meters in northwest Yunnan’s Lijiang city.
Covering Jade Dragon to Haba Snow Mountain in Shangri-La, the 60-kilometer flight lasted for over three hours. Hong’s 10-minute video has gone viral on Douyin (Chinese version of Tik Tok), gaining 2.3 million viewers and more than 30,000 likes.
Paragliding is the recreational and adventurous, calling for a flight license and picky in weather conditions and flight equipment. Be it a professional paraglider or not, gliding over snow-capped mountains is like a mission impossible, challenged by extreme weather, low temperature and lack of oxygen.
"When the altitude reached about 5,700 meters, the temperature plummeted to -7 degrees Celsius, and I was shivering in the gale,” said Hong. “But when I hovered between the two sacred mountains, overlooking the first bay of the Yangtze River and magnificent Tiger Leaping Gorge, I understood the true meaning of gliding.”
