Two weird-looking baby birds were saved by a farmer a few days ago in a village of Ximeng Wa autonomous county, southwest Yunnan’s Pu’er city.
Local forestry authority received a call from Yan Hao, a villager who claimed to have found two strange birds shivering in the fields while he was working on the farm.
Ornithologists said the birds belong to the eastern grass owl, which is under second-class state protection in China.
The species features a monkey-like face and a pointed beak. Bodies are covered with downy plumages, the claws looking like eagle’s talons. They are cared at Ximeng forest department for the time being.
