Poverty relief brings changes in Yunnan villages

The Laodabao village is by no means an individual case. Across Yunnan,  more villages of similar changes in the past years exist. 

1. The Daying village

In 2016, Zhao Guozhou, a farmer from the Daying village of Binchuan County, west Yunnan’s Dali Prefecture, did not expected he could own a new house. Earlier in 2017, Zhao received a total of 40,000 yuan aid from local poverty alleviation authorities. He spent 31,500 yuan building a new house and used the remaining money to raise cattle at home, for which he get an extra bonus of 1,000 yuan from the government.

"For me, living in a new house is really like a dream," said Zhao, who is not talkative. Now Zhao increases his family income by raising cattle and he has been lifted out of poverty, like many of his fellow folks. 

2. The Kongdang village

The Kongdang village is located in Gongshan Dulong and Nu Autonomous County in northwest Yunnan. In the past, the villagers lived in thatched cottages. No communication facilities.

Now, the village is dotted by villas everywhere, featuring spacious rooms, ethnic decorations and roofs with the solar energy equipment.

3. The Dizhengdang village

In 2007, pupils in the Dizhengdang village did not have access to sports facilities, and the village school looked shabby.

Nowadays, they study in brand new classrooms of the central primary school of Dulongjiang Township.

4. The Dulong township

In Dulong Township of Gongshan County in northwest Yunnan, villagers used to rely on a timeworn suspension bridge to go out, which is shaking and dangerous. 

Today, the old suspension has been replaced by a rainbow-like bridge, providing locals with a much easier living.
