Kunming is also home to some special museums, which are more related to our daily life. They help visitors know more about Yunnan.

Yunnan Folk-Custom Museum

Located at No. 146, Baohai Road, Guandu District, Kunming City, it is the first private museum in Kunming. The museum is also a folk tourism demonstration site.

The museum displays more than 20,000 pieces of embroideries, bronze utensils, as well as things related to the Tea-Horse Road and ethnic history.

Qingfang Tofu Museum

The museum opened at the end of 2017 in the Qibu village. It’s the first tofu museum in Kunming’s Chenggong District. The village has a 300-year history of tofu making.

The museum showcases traditional steps, tools, literature, and raw materials in tofu-making. It also displayed an antique bicycle, shopping vouchers and food stamps used by locals decades ago.

Dexin Perfume Museum

Located on the Jindingshan North Road in Kunming, the museum is China's first perfume museum, and it houses spices from around the world.

The museum is a private-owned, with perfumes, essential oils and other cosmetics displayed at its entrance. The owner is Yin Kaiyun, a perfumer.

Yunnan Museum of Gems and Minerals

Yunnan also boasts gems. In the Jingde Alley of Dongsi Street, Kunming, lies the gem museum, which opened in August 2012.

The museum has three exhibiting halls for minerals, gemstones, and other treasures. Nearly 10,000 valuables are collected there, including some precious stones and mineral crystals from other countries.

Yunnan Go-piece Museum

Go-piece making in Yunnan dates back to the Tang Dynasty and flourished in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The museum is on the first floor of the Yunzi Qiyuan (云子棋院) on Kunming’s Tuodong Road.

Yunnan-Opera Museum

Founded in 2010, the art museum houses more than 500 photos and 16 plays of the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.

The museum is also a theater, bringing fine performances to the audience.

Stele-Forest Museum

Stone carving in Kunming began in the Han Dynasty. Calligraphy and engraved works on the steles covers a wide range of topics, including the financing of education, the building of monasteries, water-conservancy facilities, and rules for local communities.
