Shangri-La, paradise for bird watchers in winter
Bird watching in winter
People are often fettered by worldly affairs. But if you have missed previous seasons, winter should be particularly cherished especially by bird lovers as Shangri-La is a paradise for bird watching.
Napahai Wetland was elected as a provincial natural reserve in 1986 and listed as an international major wetland in 2004. In fact, over 50 species of birds choose Shangri-La to spend winter and more than 20,000 birds are found in the region.
Two bird watching festivals had been held during the past two years. Animals under first-class state protection like the black-necked crane, and the white-tailed sea eagle are old friends of Shangri-La.
Meanwhile, photos of dozens of the second-class state protected animals such as the gray crane, the white spoonbill and the Himalayan Vulture are also frequently taken.
