Being the home for 25 minority groups out of 55 in total across China, Yunnan province is best known for its multi-ethnicity and diverse folk cultures.

Yet, moutains, rivers and a few other natural and geographical factors are huge trammels that have trapped the development of many ethnic regions for decades or even centuries, and the residents from remote villages had no choice but to live with extreme impoverishment and underdevelopment.

Via a series of nation and province-driven poverty alleviation programs, the transportation, environment and livelihood of these villages have been largely ameliorated.
