Fishing season of Dianchi Lake kicks off
Fishermen bring shrimps to the shore
A traditional opening ritual was held in Shati, a village by the Dianchi Lake of Kunming, Yunnan province, to celebrate the beginning of this year's fishing season on October 16, after fishing ban.
Around 2 o’clock in the afternoon, the first batch of fish was brought back by local fishermen to the shore, where hundreds of citizens and wholesalers had already awaited there.
The fishing season will last until November 14, with a span of one month, according to the Dianchi Administration Bureau.
Only whitebaits and shrimps are permitted to be caught this year, and all other fishes and aquatic products are on the banned list, such as carp, crucian and chub.
It is estimated that Dianchi Lake now has 600 to 700 tons of shrimps and 300 to 400 tons of whitebaits in all.
