In the 1980s, the Dayingjie community in Yuxi, Yunnan province gathered its resources to establish community-owned enterprises and achieved great success. By 2019, it had become a model living area with total assets of nearly 120 million yuan.
The shared efforts then lead to benefits enjoyed by more than 5,000 villagers.
According to Chen Baorong, the community's Party chief, favorable policies have covered the community's residents in housing, education, medical services and job searches, benefiting them in various ways.
For example, about 80 percent of those in the community above age 35 now work in community-owned enterprises, and each person above age 12 can receive a yearly dividend of 6,000 yuan.
Xin Baoyun's family moved to a new three-story house in 2015 after he exchanged his old house for the new one from the community and contributed about 100,000 yuan to meet the price difference.
"My current life in the new house is very comfortable, " said Xin, 53. "My wife and I work in community-owned enterprises, my children can receive money for their education ever year, and our community has a very good environment."
