Passion and dream of a young high-speed train mechanic
Cheng Yanqi conducts her inspection with a flashlight at the Kunming High-Speed Train Depot.
Cheng Yanqi was born in 2000. She works as a mechanic at the Kunming High-Speed Train Depot in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province.
Her job is to check thousand mechanical parts of a high-speed train on a daily basis and ensure the safety of the train.
Every day from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. of the next day are Cheng's work hours. She always has to work under high-speed trains with a flashlight to check those key components, such as traction motors, couplings and gear boxes, and make sure they are all well functioned.
According to Cheng, she decided to pursue her current career under the influence of her father, an engine driver with over 16 years of experience.
In her memory, father was always busy with his job, and this gave Cheng little opportunity to see him when she was a child. Cheng, therefore, believed that working as a train mechanic could bring herself closer to her father.
Every time Cheng Yanqi is asked if she is capable of doing this job as a young girl, she would always respond as the following: "Whether I can do a good job has nothing to do with my age and gender. It all depends on my determination and hard work," she firmly says.
Even though, she felt unconfident and somehow scared at the beginning of this job. But now, she has found ways to keep herself calm and concentrating on her tasks.
Chen has accumulated much work experience these years, and she has already been considered a mechnical expert at the Kunming High-Speed Train Depot.
"My biggest dream is to see the trains I've checked and maintained coming and going safely every single day. This continuously makes me feel that my efforts are never in vain, " says she.
