Two century-old bakeries in Kunming
As a celebrated Chinese city with a history of 2,400 years, Kunming is home to a diversity of century-old stores. Here are two traditional bakeries in the spring city.
Jiqingxiang
Located at No.24 on Luofeng Street in downtown Kunming, the Jiqingxiang bakery now has a new look, and it features the ham-filled cake. Jiqingxiang roughly means auspiciousness in the Chinese language.
In fact, the ham cake is sort of dry and salty, and some foodies would couple it with a cup of drinking water.
In the eyes of Kunming seniors, the ham cake is still their favorite food because they have long been accustomed to its dryness and saltiness.
Besides the traditional Chinese pastry, the bakery also produces cakes of western styles, making it popular among Kunmingers: old and young, man and woman.
