When autumn arrived in August, a peculiar fruit brought its harvest at a plantation in the Beihai township, southwest Yunnan’s Tengchong county-level city. It is called chocolate vine fruit, or “Bayuezha” among locals.

The dangling flowers produce fruit that resembles little egg plants. When it is ripe, the skin of the melon is purple and the fruit can split by itself. The flesh is mellow, and merchants and tourists come to buy or pick the fruit.
